The Austin Travis County Mental Health Mental Retardation Center (ATCMHMR) is seeking volunteers to help staff the upcoming Texas African-American Family Support Conference. Volunteers are needed on Friday, February 15, 2008 and Saturday, February 16, 2008. You’ll assist with check-in, help presenters as needed, help collect evaluation forms and lunch tickets, and provide general assistance as needed. All volunteers are welcome to attend any of the educational sessions and lunch for free. The conference takes place at the Omni Hotel at Southpark in South Austin. Volunteer with the Center for Child Protection as a Child & Family Specialist and be the smiling faces that children are greeted by.  Specialists interact and engage the children in play and art activities before and after the forensic interview is conducted.  Child and Family Specialists are essential at the Center, as they are the ones who help our children feel safe and comfortable, ready to tell their story of abuse. Training for this position will be provided in February 2008. The time commitment is four hours per week and the site is located in Central Austin. SafePlace is searching for Meal Prep Volunteers.Prepare an evening meal for SafePlace’s Life Skills clients, formerly homeless adults who attend a weekly class (Tuesday or Wednesday) with their children to learn skills that prepare them for independent living. Meals for approximately 25 people need to be dropped off at SafePlace at 5:30PM. This is an excellent volunteer opportunity for groups. This can be a one-time commitment or you may sign up for more nights. The site is located in Central Austin Please contact RSVP for more details.

 

An Office Representative is needed at AMBIS – The Austin Memorial and Burial Information Society. This person will provide clerical office support and answer calls from the public regarding burial information.  Some volunteers may also be interested in giving informative presentations to the public. The time commitment is just four hours per month and the office is located in central Austin.

 

Transportation providers are always in need at Partners in Caregiving – Faith in Action. Volunteers simply provide reliable transportation for individuals who need help living independently. Take a client to a doctor’s appointment, therapy, drug store or shopping on an as-needed basis. The time commitment can be as little as two hours monthly or as much as you are willing and able to give.  Scheduling is flexible according to your availability. Faith in Action agencies are located throughout the Austin area.

 

The Seniors & Volunteers for Childhood Immunization (SVCI) program needs volunteers to serve as Hospital Program Representatives. You’ll meet and greet mothers of newborns as they enroll in a free reminder postcard program to let them know when their babies’ shots are due.  You’ll provide critical information about the importance of fully immunizing babies before two years of age. Time commitment is flexible and the work location is St. David’s Medical Center in downtown Austin.
