Do you enjoy working with children or doing work that helps to benefit children? The Austin Children’s Museum has a variety of opportunities to serve as a volunteer. Work with kids as a Gallery Assistant, Tour Guide, Baby Bloomers Assistant, Camp Assistant or work behind the scenes in our administrative offices or supply room.

Your help is needed at the Austin Museum of Art in various aspects of the development department. Opportunities include making thank-you calls to new and rejoining members, preparing membership packets for mailings, filing, and addressing and preparing membership mailings for fulfillment. Center for Child Protection is seeking a Child & Family Specialist to greet children with happy, smiling faces see as they enter the Center for Child Protection. Specialists interact with and engage the children in play and art activities before and after the forensic interview is conducted. Child and Family Specialists are essential at the Center as they are the ones who help our children feel safe and comfortable, ready to tell their story of abuse. Training for this position is provided and will be held in September 2008.

Guardian Advocates are needed at Family Eldercare to provide advocacy and ongoing direct service to low-income, disabled or elderly clients by making monthly or semi-monthly visits to client’s residence. This activity helps maintain the quality of client treatment in a nursing or group home with the intent to prevent client abuse or neglect.

Lifetime Learning Institute is looking for a Database Coordinator. LLI is a volunteer-driven organization that provides a rich and diverse listing of affordable informal adult classes taught throughout Austin. Maintaining a database in Microsoft Works for 2,300 students is the main function of the Coordinator, with additional responsibilities throughout the year. Peak times for class registration are August through September and January through February. One day per week is needed, with more time as needed during registration periods.

Lighthouse Hospice welcomes all Crafty Volunteers who enjoy making crafts and/or who have craft skills to bring some joy into the lives of the terminally ill. Direct patient contact is not required and supplies can/will be provided for interested individuals.

The Development Team at Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (PCHAS) needs an Administrative Specialist to help with data entry, filing and bulk mailing. Put your office skills to work doing word processing, filing, copying and alphabetizing. Volunteers should be able to maintain confidentiality. On-the-job supervision and training is provided. SafePlace is in need of more Meal Prep Volunteers. Purchase and/or prepare an evening meal for SafePlace Life Skills clients. These formerly homeless clients and their children attend a weekly class on Tuesdays or Wednesdays to learn skills to prepare them for independent living. Meals for approximately 25 people need to be dropped off at SafePlace at 5:30 pm. This is an excellent volunteer opportunity for groups. The Care Communities is looking for more Care Team Members. Volunteers must have the interest, ability and sensitivity to work with people facing life-threatening illness and a high degree of comfort, decorum and professional attitude. Each volunteer will be assigned to a “Care Team” and are expected to provide support for the Care Partner by performing requested tasks which may include but is not limited to companionship, cooking, cleaning, transportation, laundry, errands, yard work, pet care, and emotional support.
